In June 2019 kayaker Jirka Vašina participated in a national race in Roudnice nad Labem. The track’s conditions were demanding as the slalom track in Roudnice can be unpredictable and difficult to prepare for. Despite the unfavorable conditions, the race attracted over one hundred starting competitors in men’s K1 category.
At the time of the race, Jirka was amid final exams of his bachelor’s degree so preparation time was limited. He transitioned from full training and studying mode into challenging waters, ironically without a proper water test.
Despite the challenges, Jirka placed fourth on Saturday and first on Sunday – after having completed two smooth and fast runs of the track. We are very proud of Jirka’s accomplishments and look forward to seeing him in future races in Bratislava, Vienna and Prague.
